Academic Writing (Level 1)

Course Description:

Postgraduate students and early career researchers often face language challenges when writing their manuscripts in English. In fact, this can be attributed to several factors including that writing in English is more demanding for non-native speakers, which can make the process of writing far more time consuming. This course has been particularly designed to introduce postgraduate students and junior researchers, regardless of their discipline, to academic writing genre as well as to enhance their writing quality skills.

Objectives

Upon the completion of this course, trainees are expected to:

• Raise participants’ awareness of the textual analysis
• Identify the basic features of academic research writing
• Enhance participants’ academic vocabulary and language
• Familiarize participants with the three writing stages
• Increase clarity, accuracy and coherence in written texts
• Produce academic texts of high quality
