Module Overview:

A wide variety of topics are presented in this course. These topics include: diagnosis, treatment planning, case presentations, orthodontic problem solving.

Training would take place at the state-of -the-art phantom heads lab of An-najah National University.

Trainees are encouraged to demonstrate orthodontic cases from their own private clinics, discuss diagnostic measures and treatment planning. Treatment development and ultimate results would be also assessed by trainees.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes:

At the end of this course trainees should be able to:

• Diagnose different types of dental and skeletal malocclusions.
• Construct a logical treatment plan
• Select adequate orthodontic removable and fixed orthodontic appliances.
• Take orthodontic alginate impressions, pour plaster study models with proper trimming.
• Conduct diagnostic analysis on study models.
• Demonstrate manual dexterity in banding and bonding fixed ortho appliances on phantom heads with malocclusion (hands-on training).
• Debond dental brackets.
• Construct different (removable & fixed) retainers.

Topics to be discussed:

• Embryology, growth and development of the cranio-facial complex.
• Teratology and congenital disorders leading to different types of malocclusion (Sagittal, transverse and vertical plane anomalies).
• Diagnostic measures in orthodontics.
• Preventive and interceptive procedures in orthodontics.
• Biologic basis of orthodontic treatment.
• Biomechanics and mechanotherapy.
• Contemporary orthodontic appliances.
• Treatment modalities.

24 sessions, 1 session every two weeks, over a period of 12 months
